Full Job Description:This DOH-funded project seeks to provide fentanyl awareness education and fentanyl test strip distribution services to various South Bronx communities. Working with people who use drugs, their families, and the broader community, this project provides fentanyl test strip education, overdose response training, harm reduction counseling, navigation services, and more.As individuals with a lived experience of substance use, peer outreach workers will use their unique insight to connect with people who use drugs and offer affirming, stigma-reducing services. Peer outreach workers will be responsible for conducting meaningful community engagement, providing overdose prevention education, and more.Description of Duties and Responsibilities:- Canvass (in courtyards, lobbies, door-to-door) to introduce families to the project- Recruit and build relationships with families in the South Bronx who live in NYCHA public housing- Conduct street-based outreach at spaces frequented by people who use drugs- Provide fentanyl test strip education and overdose response training- Distribute fentanyl test strips and overdose response kits containing Naloxone- Provide harm reduction counseling to people who use drugs- Assist with additional programmatic and research activities as they ariseQualifications for Position:- Cultural competence working with people who use drugs, Latino and Black communities, and LGBTQ communities is required- Flexible part-time schedule is strongly preferred- Experience with community outreach preferred- Bronx residency and/or familiarity is preferredSkills and Knowledge:- Bilingual (English and Spanish, full professional proficiency) is strongly preferred- Strong understanding of harm reduction framework- Strong communication and rapport-building skills- Excellent organizational and management skills
