Description
The ASA Minority Fellowship Program supports more than 500 predoctoral sociology graduate students to develop a diverse and highly trained workforce. Chosen fellows receive a $20,000 stipend, access to virtual programming, designated professional development opportunities at the ASA Annual Meeting, and travel support for scientific conferences. Applicants must meet at least two of the following criteria: identify as a member of an underrepresented racial or ethnic group among sociology PhDs, have/had no parents or legal guardians who completed a bachelor’s degree, or come from a lower socioeconomic background. The fellow must also be conducting dissertation research on a sociological topic with a primary focus on race, ethnicity, intersectionality, systemic racism, Latinx politics, Indigenous politics, tribal sovereignty and governance, critical race theory, or policies affecting racial and ethnic minorities and communities. The application deadline is January 29 and requires two essays, three letters of recommendation, and transcripts from a PhD-granting institution.
