About California Immigrant Youth Justice Alliance (CIYJA)

Mission Statement: CIYJA creates an intersectional space for system-impacted, undocumented, and refugee immigrant youth across California in underserved QTBIPOC communities. We organize through an abolitionist framework to shut down detention centers and build community power by providing a holistic approach, cultivating leadership, and supporting community transformation for liberation.

Project Scope

CIYJA seeks a Consultant (contracted position) who has direct experience in supporting youth and or nonprofit organizations to create yearly budgets. CIYJA seeks someone to support in creating our budget ($800,000+) for our fiscal year: May 2024 - April 2025, including training staff and youth members on organizational budget building. Furthermore, CIYJA seeks someone with knowledge about Immigrant Justice and Fiscal Sponsorship and the ways in which this impacts the organizational and operational needs we have for fundraising goals, creating, and balancing yearly budgets. The consultant will work collaboratively with CIYJA staff members to carry and move the work forward and meet internal goals.

● Commitment and knowledge and/or open to learning about social justice, abolition work, and immigrant justice and the ways this impacts our needs for our yearly budget and fundraising goals.

● Clear interpersonal communication skills including the ability to communicate deadlines and boundaries.

● Capacity to work within a team and highlight staff members different strengths in the process.

● Experience or be open to working with youth organizations that values youth leadership, agency, autonomy, and interdependence.

● Experience working with diverse populations who require different access needs and creative methods of engagement.

Budget Creation-Related Skills and Experience

● Have knowledge or be open to learning about the specific needs predominantly undocumented, queer, and femme organizations have, (i.e. need for contracted positions).

● Experience and understanding of radical fundraising and how the Non-Profit Industrial complex impacts fund development.

● Have knowledge or be open to working with an organization who functions within a linear model.

● This includes understanding major decisions are made collectively and at times require more time to move through.

● Experience supporting organizations build budgets for their Fiscal Year.

● Understand California’s youth organizing political landscape, with an emphasis on immigrant justice movement work.

● Have knowledge and experience supporting an organization build and balance their yearly organizational budget (including but not limited to: oversee and lead annual Budgeting Co-Creation in collaboration with all staff, oversee and administer financial plans and budgets, maintain working relationship with all staff in manners regarding budgets and finances, training staff and youth members on organizational budget building, etc,.).

● Experience with annual revenue goal setting, managing budgets, and tracking outcomes for success.

● Experience analyzing past budgets/financial patterns/etc. to inform organizational budget creation.

● Direct experience in managing and overseeing $800,000+ budgets for organizations that are fiscally sponsored.

● Highly organized with attention to process and follow-through.
