Internship Objectives

Objective Summary:

As an Advocacy Intern, you will play a crucial role in conducting research, advocating and building relationships with stakeholders for improved access to upward economic mobility and well-being for undocumented residents of Coloradans.

Scope of Work
  • Policy Research:
    • Conduct research on education and career access experienced by undocumented people, especially undocumented residents of Colorado.
    • Conduct research on laws impacting undocumented students and professionals financial well-being and health in Colorado and create 1-page overviews that are accessible for community members.
    • Investigate legislation and implementation processes in other states to learn about best practices that can be applied to Colorado.

  • Regulatory Advocacy / Policy Implementation:
    • Organize and attend meetings with agencies at the state and local level, as well as educational institutions and other employers, to advocate for improved implementation of state laws.
    • Engage with executive branch leaders to advocate for improved financial well-being and access to opportunities for immigrants and refugees.
    • Meet with state legislators to explore legislative action to improve the financial well-being and health of undocumented Coloradans.

  • Stakeholder Relationship Building:
    • Establish relationships with like-minded advocacy organizations in other states.
    • Establish and build relationships with potential stakeholders and partner institutions in Colorado.
    • Represent Juntos at community events through tabling and engagement activities.
    • Conduct community listening sessions to learn from and document the experiences of undocumented community members.
    • Alongside Juntos staff, train community members and stakeholders about policies and advocacy.

Qualifications

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Interest in policy and advocacy.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the well-being of undocumented immigrants.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Eagerness to learn and take on new challenges.
  • Tech requirements: Google Workspace, Phone, Computer, Internet, and Zoom.
  • Access to reliable transportation is required (does not have to be a personal vehicle).

Duration and Compensation

This internship may last 1-2 semesters depending on the interest of the applicant.

Part-time (10-15 hours per week) interns will be compensated with a $2,500 stipend per semester.

Full-time (30 hour per week) interns will be compensated $4,000 per semester.

As an internship, this position is not eligible for benefits. The intern is not entitled to unemployment insurance benefits through Juntos Community. The intern is obligated to pay federal and state income tax on any stipend paid to the intern.

Schedule and Location

Schedule will be determined by the number of hours and length of the internship. Availability for occasional weekday evening or weekend events should be expected.

This is a hybrid internship with a mixture of remote work and in-person work alongside Juntos staff at our Denver office (Tuesdays and Thursdays), as well as at in-person community events.
